This week Depute Heads have been busy meeting with S4 parents and carers online and also young people to discuss options for next session. This has been an invaluable experience for the deputes as they get an opportunity to discuss future plans with young people, including employability routes and course options in school/college.
The S4 parents’ night took place on Tuesday and was well attended (online). Apologies if there were glitches in the system and some microphone issues, however for the most part this ran really well. If there is information you still need, please get in touch via the school office.
Information will come out over the weekend about S2 Parents’ Evening, which is on Wednesday night next week, again online.
Our LGBTQ+ group have been preparing for LGBTQ+ History month, which starts 1st February, and have learning activities planned for the month. Look out for information about influential figures throughout February. They are also planning a bake sale for the end of February to raise funds for charity and wear something purple (with uniform) on 25th February. The group meet every Friday lunchtime and are well supported by staff and senior pupils, so new members are always welcome.
This week we opened a new quiet space for young people, who may have issues self-regulating. This space will be supported by Pupil and Pastoral Support staff as well as our Inclusion Team. Young people may be accompanied by a member of staff for a short period to the room. They will then take some time to regulate their emotions (supported by staff) and discuss any issues, preparing them for their return to class. This is in the early stages of development and is a short-term intervention, but we hope will help support the mental health of some of our young people.
Congratulations to our U-15 Football team who won their league fixture against Johnstone High School 4-0 yesterday, as well as our S2 Netball Team who progressed into the next round of the Scottish Cup after beating St Andrew’s this week!
Finally, just a reminder of covid mititgations for pupils and staff. Face coverings (unless exempt) should be worn, hand sanitising and physical distancing where possible. Lateral Flow test kits can be collected every morning from our social area.
