We had our first Parent Council of the session this week. Lesley Binning has been an integral figure in Gleniffer High for a number of years and Chair of the Parent Council for four years. She has given so much to the school and will be very much missed. Our new Chair is Jackie Kydd and I’m very much looking forward to working with her.
Miss Feggans and I had the pleasure (and difficulty) of recruiting the Badge Holders for 2018-19. 12 young people were interviewed and gave a great account of themselves. We eventually selected Emma Spence for Head Girl and Scott Glassford for Head Boy. Kennedy Campbell and Arran Gillies are Depute Head Girls and Declan Caddis and Harry Carlin Depute Head Boys. Pastoral staff will soon be conducting interviews for House Captains. This is a really important role as we try to move the house system forward in Gleniffer.
I submitted a letter from the Student Council to Renfrewshire Council this week about Free Meal Entitlement and the time of day it is allocated. The pupils feel strongly that the allowance should be made available in the morning for break time. We are awaiting a response.
Staff training on nurturing approaches and attachment disorder started this week. All teaching staff came together Wednesday after school to start work on the programme with our link Educational Psychologist. We will have our next session on the October in-service day.
Today I heard from a Higher Leadership Group about their plans for a Young Carer support group. They have lots of ideas as to how they will take this forward and will be presenting to pupils and other staff soon.
Today was our first Freshen Up Friday! S2 pupils came with me to Durrockstock Park and the lane beside the school, as we did our first community clean-up of the session.
