Last week we had our UCAS information evening to provide support and offer information to pupils and parents on the UCAS process. Part of the evening was a very useful presentation from SAAS on funding entitlement and how to apply for funding. Mrs Harris also took the audience through options available to young people as well as the all-important personal statement. Workshops have now started to support young people with their applications and have been complemented by the Higher Education conference which was well attended by Gleniffer High pupils.
I have been listening to presentations from the Higher Leadership class about initiatives they wish to take forward to raise awareness of homelessness and raise funds for charities to support people who may find themselves without a stable home. They have some very exciting ideas which will involve the whole school community – watch this space!
Our P7 Open Evening was very well attended this week. Our future S1 and their families came along to hear about our expectations and the support we offer in Gleniffer High. The highlight was most definitely the tour of the school, led by S6 prefects. Current pupils delivered presentations and provided demonstrations and were a credit to our school. It was great to meet so many new families as well as re-connect with current families. The transition programme is ongoing throughout the session and we hope to add to it this session with an additional day for P7 pupils.
Freshen up Friday took place today which tied in with Renfrewshire Council’s Spotless September challenge. S3 pupils and two of our badge holders were out in the community doing their bit to make where we live and work a cleaner place. Our pupils always enjoy giving something back and it’s great to see the enthusiasm they apply to the task.
Next week we will be saying a sad farewell to Mrs Pender our catering manager who is retiring after a very lengthy service to Amey. We wish Mrs Pender a long, happy and healthy retirement and thank her for the service she has given to Gleniffer High over the years.
