The week finished on Wednesday at 1.00pm rounding off another very successful session in our school.
With only three days, the final week was dominated by the school show ‘Sound of Music’ with two matinee performances for pupils and two evening shows for family and friends of the school.
After months of rehearsals, the whole show came together like clockwork with pupils and staff giving us arguably one of the best school shows we have ever had on our stage. With the school band producing the music and our performers excelling on stage, everything including lighting, sound and backstage management was its very best. This show was also the last for three of our most loyal performers who leave us at the end of their sixth year. Lauren McColgan played Mother Superior and with her magical voice set the tone of the show from the very first moment. Fraser Scott played Captain Von Trapp and like everything Fraser does in school, it was done with full commitment giving one of his best performances since he stepped on the stage in first year. The lead part of Maria was played by the extremely talented Georgia Porter and what a performance she put on for all four shows. Having watched Georgia since first year, I can say without fear of contradiction that this was her best ever playing the part with passion, energy and personality. As Head Teacher, I could not have asked for better performances from everyone on what was my last school show. A truly wonderful Gleniffer High School event. My thanks go to the staff involved for making this possible with a special mention to Mrs. Gibb our Musical Director and Miss MacDonald our school Producer.
On Monday morning interval the staff gathered in the staffroom to hear Mrs. Sangster make the official retirement presentation to me on behalf of the school and like all things Mrs. Sangster does, it was done with style, care and thought. At this point I would like to thank Mrs. Sangster publicly for organising and leading the retirement dinner on Friday evening and for ensuring that I had such a wonderful send off. If I could have planned the perfect retirement then what I received was that and more.
As this is my final Head Teacher’s reflections, I would like to finish by saying that it has been an absolute privilege to have held the post of Head Teacher in our school and to thank you for sending your sons and daughters to Gleniffer High school. Over the years, I have tried my best to make this school a happy, vibrant and successful place where our young people could achieve and flourish. I hope I have done that and I hope that I have never let you down.
As I head out the door for the last time as Head Teacher I would like to wish Miss Lisa Chalmers all the very best when she takes over in August and to ask you to give her your full support so that Gleniffer High School can continue on its journey of even greater success.
