At the end of the first full week the school is settling well into the new session. Extra-Curricular clubs have started running and the full programme will be issued to pupils soon. We are also introducing a Wellbeing Breakfast Club for S1-3 pupils, taking place each morning and starting 3rd September. Pupils can come in PE kit, take part in some physical activity, get changed and have a breakfast all before the start of the school day and free of charge! Letters will be issued next week giving more information about this new club.
PTA met for the first time this school session and discussed many fundraising ideas for the school. All funds raised go toward making improvements for young people and cover the cost of Certificate of Merit. Just last year the PTA provided furniture for a new reading area in the library and have given funds to do the same in our Pupil Support Hub. They also funded a number of laptops for pupil use in the Pupil Support Department as well as a Smartboard. The PTA would welcome new members as well as support from the parent body at fundraising events.
I had the pleasure of sitting discussing plans for achieving a Gold Sport Scotland Award with our Young Ambassadors Grace Ferguson and Chloe Rae. The girls will be leading the way in promoting physical activity beyond the PE classroom and also running some extra-curricular activities themselves.
Our Dux and Proxime Accessit were announced this week during S6 assembly. Congratulations to Emma Caldwell and Adam Salisbury for achieving the status of Joint Dux winners. Also to Emma Spence for her position as Proxime Accessit. All three students achieved 5As at Higher level in S5.
Student Council met for the first time this session and the focus was on wellbeing. We discussed school meals and the group will be presenting their thoughts to relevant personnel. The pupils came up with a load of great ideas they will share at our next assemblies.
Thanks to all the parents and carers who came to our S1 Induction Evening on Thursday this week. It was great to see you all again and get positive feedback on how you feel your children are settling into Gleniffer High School. The presentations will be made available on our school website.
