On Monday of this week, the Malawi 2020 group presented to parents and carers their plans for the organisation and running of the ball on 25th October. The young people are working on teams in different areas such as finance, sales, fundraising and decoration. They all spoke very well and demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills. This is sure to be a great night so get in touch to secure your tickets.
The House Captains emptied the token box for the first time this session and gathered information on extra-curricular awards. We have collated the totals so far this session and at the moment Glen house is narrowly in the lead, closely followed by Brodie, Thornly and Moredun have loads of time to catch up though so keep collecting those tokens and letting us know of achievements! The house tallies will be shared during assemblies on 2nd October, it’s important to let the pupils know first. Then we’ll publicise for all the school community to see. My thanks to Freya Hamilton who is pulling the scores together and also to the rest of the House Captains who are working on getting photos of young people who are achieving extra-curricular awards.
On Wednesday we had our annual UCAS information event for parents, carers and young people. The event was led by Miss Feggans and Miss Cameron who also had a representative from SAAS along to share information on funding. Young people will now be supported with their applications through a series of workshops.
S2 and S6 pupils were litter picking in Durrockstock Park and Waverly Road today. As always we were supported by a parent helper. I know that the local community can be frustrated with the mess left behind, particularly after lunchtimes. Myself and the Deputes speak with young people at assemblies every month about this very matter and we are out on a monthly basis cleaning up areas near the school. It would be really helpful for us to support the local community by ensuring litter is held until we reach a bin and are careful with glass bottles.
Today pupils across the school have been voting for community funded projects which could help us secure additional funding for activities promoting health and wellbeing. Fingers crossed we come out winners!
A reminder that next week is the September weekend and the school will be closed Friday and Monday of the following week. Also, our P7 Open Evening takes place on Thursday 26th September, starting at 6pm. We hope to see lots of you there!
