Happy New Year! I hope all the Gleniffer High community had an enjoyable festive period.
Higher prelims have started this week and seniors are now working hard to achieve their best grades in these exams. I’d like to wish them all the very best in these exams and remind them that although there is not a huge amount of time until the SQA diet, if they put the work in there is still plenty time to continue to improve on grades.
I had a really interesting meeting with Renfrewshire Young Carers on Tuesday of this week, and will be following this up with colleagues in school. The number of our children and young people who have caring responsibilities and are dealing with this whilst maintaining full-time education would surprise you. They are a huge support to their families and we will be doing all we can to make sure we support them in school.
I have issued letters to S1-3 pupils this week, inviting parents to come in and meet with me on an informal basis. I am also looking to get our Student Council up and running. Pupils have had presentations at assembly and will hear more about this through PSE. Please encourage your child to consider putting themselves forward for Student Council, as it is a great way for them to direct decisions made about the school.
Our school chaplaincy team run a “Hot Chocolate Club” every Thursday lunchtime in GO29. Pupils from S1/2 are invited to come along for a free refreshment with their friends in a nice warm environment. It has been quite quiet so far this year and the guests are keen to welcome more pupils along.
Good luck to our S4 pupils embarking on Work Experience. They have done incredibly well securing placements and will get a lot from the experience!
